Lila Khatiwada completed his Bachelors degree in Agriculture from Nepal in 1992. After his BS, he worked in the field of community development for eight years. In 2001, he went to the Philippines for his Masters' degree as he was selected for an Asian Development Bank scholarship. During his stay in the Philippines he was a Research Scholar at International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). Khatiwada did his research about the social consequences of information and communication technology (ICT) in Nepal. In fall 2004, he joined University of Missouri-Columbia for his PhD.
